Surveys in Sussex: your questions answered
Which parts of Sussex do you cover?
Both counties. East Grinstead, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Horsham in the north, Lewes, Uckfield and the Downs in the middle, and Brighton, Hove, Portslade, Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing on the coast, where our Hove office sits.
Do you survey Regency and Victorian property on the coast?
Regularly. Stucco fronts, deep basements, bay windows and long parapet gutters need to be looked at properly, and salt air and exposure make the maintenance history matter more than it does inland. These are usually RICS Home Survey Level 3 properties.
Can you survey a flat or a conversion?
Yes. We report on the flat itself and on the roof, structure and common parts that affect it, and set out what the lease is likely to leave to the freeholder or management company. Tell us whether it is purpose-built or a conversion when you request a quote.
Do you cover the new towns and post-war estates?
Yes. Crawley, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath grew quickly after 1945 and include some non-traditional construction. A Level 2 is usually enough for a well-kept house of this age; where the construction type is unfamiliar or lending has been refused, a Level 3 is the safer instruction.
Is there a Sussex office?
Yes. We have offices in Hove, Oxted and London, so the coast and the Downs are local ground rather than a long trip. Appointments can usually be arranged promptly once access is agreed with the agent or seller.
What clients say
4.9 from Google and Trustist reviews
-
My experience with Huxley Surveyors more than met expectations. Mathew did our Level 3 pre-purchase survey of a flat in a Grade II listed property in Hove. His very extensive report was well presented, and upon receipt Mat proactively suggested a follow up phone call to clarify any points in the report and to answer any questions. All in all, a good experience. I can highly recommend Huxley Surveyors.
-
The survey itself was exceptionally detailed and comprehensive, leaving no stone unturned. The report was clear, well-structured, and easy to understand, highlighting both major concerns and smaller issues that could have easily been overlooked.

Fabulous service from Chris. We have used Huxley surveyors twice and would recommend without doubt. The service was professional, informed and really efficient. Following a survey, Chris offered follow- up calls to help with anything that wasn’t clear. A fantastic service.
